The Clobber Passages

So I'm beginning an in-depth study of the Clobber Passages - defined as a verse of the Bible interpreted as condemning homosexuality. Also clobber text. Many of you may wonder why I'm so adamant about this subject, because I'm not gay, and I'm a Christian... well as a progressive Christian & American, I support equal rights in a country of religious freedom... and I'm so adamant about it because it is wrong to judge others and to twist scripture to meet one's personal opinion or views. I'm not attempting to point fingers at anyone's sin, but the true issue at hand is that many who go around using the bible as a crutch for being anti-homosexual don't usually realize this is what is going on. They have been spoon-fed dogmatic scripture that has been cherry picked from it's passage (by preachers who have also been spoon fed their religion - this has gone on for so long there's no telling where it started...) I myself was spoon-fed for quite a while... But it's not about blame... it's about educating ourselves to the true meanings of the Word. I hope that by using my blog as sort of a journal to document my study, others will read it and be inspired to study these passages closer.

I will be listing those passages here and linking to the post I write regarding each one as I study it. I'll begin with the new testament, as I believe it is most relevant & important -  Romans & Galatians clearly show that the OT law is no longer relevant due to Christ's death on the cross which brought forth a new covenant.

NT:

I Corinthians 6 - Behaviors that will prevent a person from obtaining heaven

I Timothy 1 -"Arsenokiitai" are lawless, disobedient, ungodly...

Jude 1:7 - Sodomites going after strange flesh

OT:

Why You Can't Quote the Old Testament to Condemn Homosexuality

Genesis 1 - Be Fruitful & Multiply

Genesis 2:23-24 - Marriage

Genesis 19 - Sodom & Gomorrah

Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 - Abomination

Deuteronomy 23:17 - Sodomites and Shrine Prostitutes
